We celebrated our 50th Anniversary on Saturday, May 3, 1997 at 6:30 P.M. with a dinner at Family Time of Hershey Farm in Strasburg, PA. International Director Gene Polgar was the speaker for the evening. The eighty-seven Lions and guests in attendance enjoyed a delicious family style meal. Tucquan President Darryle Hudson introduced several special guests. They included District 14-D Governor Thomas A. Ridder, Immediate Past District Governor Rodney Sweger, Zone A Chairman Kenneth Klein, and International Director Eugene S. Polgar. Polgar gave an inspiring speech highlighting many important reasons to serve as a Lion.
Lion John Burkins served as Toastmaster for the evening, entertaining the audience with many hilarious jokes. Awards were presented to several individuals. Lion Claude Walter received a special membership award, and Lion Thomas Entenmann received a 10-year chevron. Kenneth Eshelman was recognized as the only remaining charter member of the Tucquan Lions Club. Lion John Stoner was honored as the present member of the Tucquan Lions Club with the greatest number of years of service. Stoner has been a member of the club since 1953. A Melvin Jones Fellowship - the highest honor a Lion can receive - was awarded to Lion Howard Cramer. Lion Cramer, a member of the Tucquan club since 1969, epitomizes the idea of Lionism. Whenever there is a job to be done, Lion Cramer answers the call.
Special thanks to Mrs. Shelba Eberly and Lion Thomas Entenmann for the outstanding job they did preparing and setting up the decorations for our charter night.
